Here's just a few of the photos my my friend Becca @rmjdalyphoto #rmjdalyphoto
It's been a while since I've updated my tour blog, I'm TRYING to get much better at posting, so here it goes.... I've been happy to return to SeaTac Airport on a more regular basis, hopefully things will pick up this winter.
I've been back to Richland Washington for another gig at The Rattlesnake Mt Brewing Co. and have more dates on the books!! It was fun to play a couple new places too, Crucible Brewing and The Carnation Cafe. Both excellent places and I look forward to returning. The Carnation Cafe was another milestone as show number 80 since mid-April and 117 for the year... so far. The photos in the slideshow are of Yakima Valley. I had to include the mens room at the rest-stop because, well... let's just say it was "special" and I didn't make it out without tossing my donuts and coffee outside the door...there was only one tree in the whole damn valley.. then I had a couple days off at home to regroup and get ready for the end of summer push. I had such a great time performing at @thetripledoor I got to open the show for my friends in The Vault Band and @officialrandyhansen thanks @mrbill4man for the cool pic. You make me look better than I am. Then after a couple days off I was headed up north to Mt Vernon as the featured artist for #farmstrongbrewing and their Tuesday Truck show series. Farms, trucks…music…my kind of gig. Thursday evening I got to go song-for-song with one of my FAVORITE local songwriters and performers. I met Stacy Jones over 10 years ago when I was booking at Hard Rock Cafe and we've been fast friends ever since. She's an award winning songwriter so I had better bring my A-game and don't play any songs that suck. LOL. @madisonpub_ #songwriter #doingwhatilove #tobycbrady #jamieslyehats #somebodysignmealready Thank you to all the great venues for booking me and thank you to everyone who shows up at my little gigs. I’m having a blast doing what I was put on this earth to do. #farmstrongbrewing #rusticcork #twounionsquare #gigs4u #rocksannpromotions #seatacairport #onemanband #suitcasedrums #footdrummer #dowhatittakes #unsignedartist #norecorddeal #nashvillehatesyou It’s been whirlwind of a week and show number 70 since I left on tour in April. The photo pretty much explains it all. Yup it was HOT HOT HOT and I played in the direct sun and sweated my ass off and loved every minute of it!!! Thanks to @farmstrongbrewing #madisonpubeverett @stacyjonesband @rusticcork @seatac_international_airport @gigs_4_u #rocksannpromotions and ALL staff and new friends I’m making along the way. It’s been an epic summer, one I will remember and smile because yeah, I did that. #singer #onemanband #solotraveler #vanlife #footdrummer #tobycbrady #diditmyway #haveguitarwilltravel This weekend I reached a milestone of 60 shows since April, and by the end of this month I'll hit 70 gigs!! I admit, I'm a bit tired and sore; but, I keep on ROCKIN'!!!
It was beautiful weather for the drive to Richland and Yakima and of course my air-conditioner went out of my van!! So I had to roll old school style with the windows down. Oh well, it was a nice drive. Friday night in Richland WA. was sweaty and hot but it felt great to return to Rattlesnake Brewing Co. I really feel I'm making a new home there. I recognized a few of the regular crowd and they stayed for my entire 3hr set. Singing along when they knew the words. I'll be back in August.!! Then Saturday night as I rolled into Yakima I could tell it was going to be a great night because the streets were PACKED with people walking around and hanging out. Turns out that was the night all the hotrod cars cruise the main drag, so yeah, I was right.. it WAS A GREAT NIGHT!!! I just LOVE the staff at Kana Winery, they make it easy for everyone to have fun. I know I did. Sunday, not normally a day for gigs but Leavenworth WA does NOT follow the rules!! I started the day off with a nice drive over Blewitt Pass. On the way I found a Forest Service road and a few miles of gravel later I found a spot to pull over and hang out by Liberty River. I had some time to kill so I made myself (another) ham sandwich then took a nap. Leavenworth was bustling with tourists walking around and taking in the damn cutest little town you ever did see!!! It was my first time at Stein and I'm glad I was early because I had to park a block away. Now really, the best way to describe the crowd at Stein is to click this link and watch the video. https://fb.watch/enZCa-5h6B/ I've been so busy that I haven't even had time to catch up on my tour blog!! That's a GOOD thing!!
June was action packed with shows and and more miles on the van. I always love playing a regular rotation at Birdsview Brewery in Concrete WA and Mikes Tavern in CleElum WA. Such good 'hometown folks" that hang out in those places. I'm building a following in Snoqualmie WA at Sigillo Cellars which is exciting to see. I like meeting new friends. Mid-June took me to Spokane for the Goodguys Car show. I've been doing that event for years now and it's always nice to see my Goodguys family. The Bindlestick in Snoqualmie was a perfect night for music outside and only my 2nd outdoor show this year. All work and no play makes Toby a grumpy boy, so my friend Lyle and I packed up the 4x4 and drove up into the Blewitt Mountain Pass and went wandering around the forest service roads. I found a couple places that I'm going camping for sure!! Ok, were FULL ON ROCK AND ROLL NOW!! with 16 shows in July!!!
Writing this at the halfway point of the month and getting ready to head back to Yakima and Richland WA. I played a new venue called Seasons Bistro in Yakima and was asked back to The Rattlesnake Saloon and Kana Winery in eastern Washington. I'll be returning to Leavenworth at a new venue called Colchucks. The search for a new (used) RV continues and I'm weighing my options to possibly get a camper trailer instead. I've managed to save up about 1/2 of what I'd need for a down payment on something decent. So hopefully by the end of summer I'll have enough saved to make this a reality. The van is doing great but it would be nice to stand up when I put on pants. LOL I just LOVE rolling into a new venue and watching the crowd as I set up my suitcases. I get some strange looks, until I start playing and then it's all smiles!! My gigs in Kalispell and Columbia Falls were among the highlights of the tour so far. My camping space was in the Glacier National Forest and every night I was the audience to a symphony of Owls chatting across the canyons. In Columbia Falls at The Gunsight Saloon I made some new friends and had a one of my best performances. I was fulfilled as a songwriter when I asked the crowd if they wanted to hear a cover song or and original and without hesitation the entire place yelled "ORIGINAL". I think most musicians underestimate their audience. Don't live in your safe space, play an original song, take a chance. You NEVER know who will connect with that tune.
Woke up to the sound of rain on the roof if my van. I let it drift me back to sleep but not before starting to heat the water for my coffee. When the rain stopped the wind came rushing in behind to clean everything up. The first cup of coffee is always the best as I set my cruise control on 80mph oh I LOVE driving fast!! And I’m headed to Philipsburg Mt with a lunch stop in Drummond. I love those diner’s where the laughter is as loud as the jukebox and the waitress calls you “sweetie”. My kind of place. Hometown folk. This evening I’ll be performing at #philipsburgbrewery let the good times roll. #tourlife #travelingmusician #montanamusic
